Dear members and friends of Fountain Street Church,

As we welcome the shifting rhythms of the summer, the rhythms of Fountain Street Church are shifting as well. In this update, the staff at FSC wish to share what our hearts are holding, as well as our calendars.

Due to the unfolding nature of the pandemic, vaccine availability, and safety logistics, the decision was made early this spring that our Summer Speaker Series would be held virtually. This allows for a familiar rhythm to carry us through the summer months, while staff and volunteers focus our energies on creatively planning for the kick-off of the new congregational year in the fall and develop multi-platform modes of gathering focused on inclusivity and accessibility.

We recognize that the diversity of individuals and life circumstances within our community means that there are varying levels of comfort with indoor/in-person events. Some are eager and anxious to be in our building again. It is encouraging that vaccinations are more readily available and government restrictions are shifting. Yet there are those among us -- particularly our youngest loved ones and those with compromised immune systems -- for whom the current positivity rate makes large community gatherings unsafe.

As we hold all that, we are also hopeful and excited to move back into physical community with each other -- while continuing to hold space for those who aren’t ready yet. Below are some specifics on what you can expect from our building and our programming this summer.

Sync Watch in the Social Hall

Starting June 6, we will open the Social Hall on Sunday mornings for folks who would like to watch the virtual service in the company of others! We are asking folks to register in advance for contact-tracing purposes. The signup will be available on the website. The capacity limit is 100 people. Masks and distancing will also be required. Watch your inbox or fountainstreet.org for instructions on how to register.

Small Groups in the Social Hall

As of now, the social hall is open for small group reservations! Groups of 20 and fewer can now meet in the Social Hall during current business hours. Masks and distancing will be required. We also ask that all meets held in person have a virtual component for those who wish to attend but are not yet comfortable coming in person. Contact Conor to make a reservation: cbardallis@fountainstreet.org

Meditation in the Sanctuary

If you are missing our shared sacred space, you can schedule a time to come sit, pray, meditate, just be in our beautiful sanctuary. Scheduling is available during business hours from Monday through Thursday and can be arranged by contacting Melissa: mhoezee@fountainstreet.org

Weekly Meetings

Sundays, The Deepening: Our post service social gathering will not take place during the summer.

Mondays, "Let's Talk." with Rev. Greta Jo: Our ongoing white identity caucus and antiracism discussion group will move to an every other week schedule on second and fourth Mondays. You can reach out to Rev. Greta Jo with any questions: gseidohl@fountainstreet.org

Wednesdays, The Grounding: The Wednesday-evening worship we had over the last year will not take place during the summer. We encourage you to enjoy your summer evenings in the great outdoors.

Email Updates

During the summer we will reduce congregation-wide email updates. The Sunday morning email will continue with information about how to participate in Sunday worship. The Friday Flash will go out weekly with community and congregational updates.

Clergy

While each of the clergy will be taking periodic summer vacations, someone will always be on call and available for emergencies and pastoral needs. Each of us is also available by appointment.

We are grateful for your continued support and energy, and as the staff shift our focus to what the fall will be like for Fountain Street Church, we also wish for you a safe, restful, restorative, and resilient summer.

With love and gratitude,

Ministers & Staff
