Rev. Mariela Perez-Simons

Senior Minister for Vision & Innovation

mperezsimons@fountainstreet.org

The Rev. Mariela Pérez-Simons most recently served as an intern minister at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Tulsa — the largest UUA church in the world. There, she gained attention and grew a following of people who were drawn to her charismatic preaching style, intellect, sensitivity and openness. “There is a place for the liberal church in America — churches that provide a place to ask questions,” Pérez-Simons said. “I believe our tradition is enriched by our theological diversity. We draw from many sources because there's wisdom in each of them to help give meaning and purpose to our lives and to live our values in the world.”

Rev. CHRISTOPHER ROE

Executive Minister for Organizational Development

croe@fountainstreet.org

Christopher comes to Fountain Street Church having worked in a variety of religious and educational settings, most recently in Evanston, Illinois overseeing a vibrant inter-religious Pre-K-12 Program. After completing his Bachelors in Education at Grand Valley, Christopher moved to Chicago to attain a Master of Divinity from Garrett Seminary. He is now working on a Master of Education from Grand Valley in hopes of advanced studies in exploring the intersection of critical pedagogy, social justice, and religious education. Christopher, with his husband Jonathan, moved to Grand Rapids in 2016 to open Books & Mortar Bookstore. As a classically trained Pianist and Organist as well as an avid fitness enthusiast, Christopher enjoys his time "on the bench" and can be found happily practicing or working out during his free time. Additionally, he enjoys spending generous amounts of time with his friends, family, and neighbors, "nerding out" on urban planning and development in Grand Rapids, and traveling abroad once a year with his husband.
