Rev. Dr. W. Frederick Wooden

Senior Minister

Greetings!  I came to FSC in March 2005 from Brooklyn, New York. Before that I lived and worked in Austin Texas and rural Massachusetts.  But I spent my college and seminary days in the Midwest.

More personally, my wife and I met in the fourth grade, have been a couple since 1972, and married since 1976.  We have two grown sons, but no grandchildren.  We were both born and raised in Maryland.

Rev. Christopher Roe

Minister of Spiritual Life & Learning

Christopher comes to Fountain Street Church having worked in a variety of religious and educational settings, most recently in Evanston, Illinois overseeing a vibrant inter-religious Pre-K-12 Program.  After completing his Bachelors in Education at Grand Valley, Christopher moved to Chicago to attain a Master of Divinity from Garrett Seminary.  He is now working on a Master of Education from Grand Valley in hopes of advanced studies in exploring the intersection of critical pedagogy, social justice, and religious education.

Christopher, with his husband Jonathan, moved to Grand Rapids in 2016 to open Books & Mortar Bookstore.  As a classically trained Pianist and Organist as well as an avid fitness enthusiast, Christopher enjoys his time "on the bench" and can be found happily practicing or working out during his free time.  Additionally, he enjoys spending generous amounts of time with his friends, family, and neighbors, "nerding out" on urban planning and development in Grand Rapids, and traveling abroad once a year with his husband.

Rev. Dr. David Lee Smith

Associate Minister of Visitation

Rev. Dr. David Lee Smith has a diverse religious background with roots in the Reformed, (RCA), and Baptist, (GARB), traditions.  He is a graduate of Creston High School, GRCC, and Western Michigan University with a degree in Music Education.  After four years in the U.S. Air Force and 30 more years in the Michigan National Guard, he worked in Grand Rapids in the telephone and computer industries.  He graduated from the Chicago Theological Seminary with Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees.  After a 21-year pastorate at the Burlingame Congregational United Church of Christ in Wyoming, he completed three out-of-town Interim Pastor assignments and a Chaplaincy at a local nursing home.  He holds clergy standing in the Grand West Association, (Michigan Conference), of the United Church of Christ.

Dave enjoys music, genealogy, and exploring issues related to religion, culture, politics, and world affairs.  With his wife, Liz, he resides in Grandville.
