Our JAZZ IN THE SANCTUARY concert series will continue its sixth season on April 26, 2020! Host and curator Robin Connell (piano/voice) welcomes guest performers for an afternoon of jazz in our stunning neo-Romanesque sanctuary. General admission is $15 (students $5) online or at the door.

Lisa Sung (piano)

LISA SUNG is a talented and versatile pianist with a background in both classical music and jazz. She has performed with bassist Ron McLure, drummer Jeff Brillanger, saxophonist Patrick Wolff, and bassist/vocalist Gerald Benson, among others. She currently serves as a professor of piano at Calvin University and as an accompanist and music director for the Calvin University Gospel Choir. She plans to bring a few guests to her Jazz in the Sanctuary concert.

 

 

 

 

 

ROBIN CONNELL, pianist and vocalist, received West Michigan Jazz Society's 2017 "Musician of the Year" award for her widespread collaboration with area jazz artists and her work on this series. In 2016, she won the ArtPrize Public Choice Award for her original composition "Prisms". An advocate for jazz education, she co-directs the Youth Jazz Combo at St. Cecilia Music Center, teaches every June at Aquinas College Jazz Camp, and formerly served as summer jazz faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts for 20 years.

Jazz in the Sanctuary is made possible by the Fountain Street Church Music Committee, Aquinas College Music Department, Blue Lake Public Radio, West Michigan Jazz Society, and WYCE 88.1fm.
