(616) 459-8386 ext. 222
Marilyn Ossentjuk, Organist and Director of Music, has been on the FSC music staff since 2001. She plays the church's magnificent five-manual, 172-rank Austin pipe organ for worship services, weddings, and memorial services and oversees the entire music program. She directs the FSC Young Singers, for children in elementary school, the FSC Handbell Choir, and the FSC Care Choir and is accompanist for the FSC Church and Oratorio Choirs. She values the variety of musical styles used in worship services at FSC to reach people's hearts and souls. Marilyn holds a Masters degree (with honors) in Church Music, with an emphasis in Organ Studies, from the University of Michigan. She also holds undergraduate degrees (with honors) in Vocal Music Education and German from Calvin College. A member of the music honors society Pi Kappa Lambda, she is active in the American Guild of Organists and the Music Teachers National Association and sings in and accompanies, on organ and harpsichord, the Grand Rapids Bach Chorale. She frequently performs on organ throughout west Michigan and has also studied and performed at the North German Organ Academy. Marilyn and her husband, James Kunnen, are the happy parents of their son, Joseph. In addition to cherishing time spent with family and friends, Marilyn is an advanced master gardener and a member of Grand Rapids' local native plant group, River City Wild Ones. She also makes time in her life to continue studying and growing as a musician and to continue working through her ever-expanding bucket list of organ, piano, and harpsichord pieces she wants to learn.
