The Fountain Street Church Governing Board is elected by the congregation and leads the Church toward its mission by forming policy on governance issues and assuring the institutional integrity of the Church. Working in partnership with the Senior Minister and staff, they create the many programs and services that serve and engage the members of the FSC community.
The Board meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Social Hall. Except in vary rare instances, all meetings are open to the public and congregant comments are welcomed each month. The Board is comprised of 15 members, five elected each year for a renewable term of three years. FSC is a fantastic, controversial, rewarding, and challenging place for becoming. And becoming, we are! We have organized ourselves around three over-arching goals for the 2011-2012 Church years:
- Retain and Engage the Congregation
- Deepen the Culture of Generosity
- Support Growth and Outreach
After permitting itself the luxury of a brief respite over Advent, the Governing Board has begun its work in earnest for 2012. Five new members have joined the Board this year - Jim Anderson, Michael Crawford, Dick Harris, Russ Lampen, and Beth Wilbur. We welcome their energy, enthusiasm, and new ideas for serving FSC's mission to Free the Mind, Grow the Soul, and Change the World!
In addition to its typical work, the Board is engage in several specific tasks this year. We recently appointed Governing Board liaisons to each of the Church Life Committees to improve communications between our Ministries and the Board. We are in the middle of our biennial review of our Senior Minister, which will be completed this spring. We are conducting a review of our policies to ensure that the Board is exercising its oversight role while delegating management of the Church's Ministries. Finally, we are working closely with the Strategic Planning Design Team to prepare a strategic plan for 2013 and beyond. So much for thinking there is little to do this winter!
