Interfaith Celebration of Ramadan in Grand Rapids
(Another in the series of Feasts for the Soul at FSC)

August 25, 2010

Fountain Street Church is again honored to host a community Iftar "Breakfast" meal with the Islamic Center and Religious Institute of Grand Rapids on August 25th, from 7:00-9:30 p.m.!  Ramadan, one of the "Pillars of Islam", is month of daylight fasting in honor of the month in which the Qur'an was initially received by the Prophet Muhammed.

Each day the fast ends at sundown, whereupon families and friends gather to eat, making this a festive season as much as a prayerful one.

The evening will begin with a "meet and greet" beginning at 7:00 p.m. when members of both communities, (and others), can become acquainted.  Sundown comes after 8:00 p.m. and will be marked by Islamic prayers in the Chapel.  This will be followed by the joyful meal, which will consist of foods traditionally served during the season.

We invite you to come and join in the diversity of greater Grand Rapids.  Enjoy nourishment of both body and soul.

A donation of $7.50/person, or $25.00/family of four or more is requested and will be collected at the door.  Reservations are required.  Please call the Church Office at (616) 459-8386 ext. 237 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

A portion of the cost helps to provide for the meal and additional funds will go to the religious school of the Islamic Center - giving to others during Ramadan is almost as important as fasting.

This is a family-friendly evening and children are especially invited!  We hope to see you there!

Pledge-A-Palooza
October 3, 2010

What is Pledge-A-Palooza?  It is a celebration/party for the kick-off to the 2011 Pledge Campaign. Why celebrate?  Why not?  It's an event for Fountain Streeter's to gather and celebrate their reasons of why they support FSC.  Each has their own reasons and it's a way to celebrate your reason.  It's also a way for FSC to show their appreciation for your support!

There will be music, food & beverages, friends, and an opportunity to win a prize for submitting your pledge card on Sunday.  Festivities will be from 12:15 - 3:00 p.m.  Prizes and entertainment have been graciously donated and volunteered by congregants and the local community.

There will be childcare provided and activities for elementary school-age children on the 3rd floor of FSC.

As we are in the early stages of planning, there will be additional information in future publications as they become available.  If you have any questions, please contact Randy Allaben at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Religious Literacy:  What Every American Needs to Know -- and Doesn't

Since 1928 when Senior Minister Alfred Wesley Wishart debated Clarence Darrow - "Is There a General Purpose in the Universe?" - Fountain Street Church has brought enlightened thinkers and enterprising musicians to Grand Rapids, fulfilling its civic and religious duty to serve and lead the greater West Michigan community - such notables as Winston Churchhill, Linus Pauling, Eleanore Roosevelt and Robert Frost are among the over 100 speakers who have challenged the mind and stirred the conscience from this Free Pulpit. In addition, a great number of gifted performers from Dave Brubeck to Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington to Arlo Guthrie - have thrilled the heart and soothed the soul from this great chancel.
