Flagstaff Volunteering &
Visiting National Parks Trip
April 2nd - 10th, 2010
For this year's 2009-2010 Fountain Club trip, we are planning to volunteer in Flagstaff, Arizona and then visit some of the beautiful National Parks in that area of the country. Some of the highlights we are looking forward to include:
- Riding the Amtrak train from Chicago to Flagstaff and then returning all the way to Grand Rapids via the train. It will be about a 27-hour trip to Flagstaff and then around 34 hours back home.
- Doing volunteer work in Flagstaff. We are talking with both an Animal Rescue Program and a Food Bank about using us to help accomplish some of the work that needs to get done at their agencies. For many years now, the youth of FSC have been volunteering both in our own city and around the U.S. helping those in need. We want to continue this type of work!
- Visiting some of the most beautiful National Parks located in the U.S. that happen to be near Flagstaff. The Grand Canyon is nearby and we will spend some time visiting the canyon and learning about its history and magnificence. While the Grand Canyon is something you stand above and walk down into, Zion National Park is quite different. You start at the wide mouth of Zion Canyon and slowly walk up the river as the canyon narrows around you. Friends and congregation members who have been advising us about this trip say that we are in for a real treat when we visit these two parks!
- Staying at a hotel in Flagstaff, walking around the city, and enjoying some of the local cuisine.
- Being together as a church youth group away from our families, but still connected to one another.
We encourage high school age youth from our church to join us for this worthwhile trip. We appreciate the support the congregation is showing us, both verbally and financially, as we prepare for this adventure!
