Help Sponsor a Fountain Club Youth's Trip to the Gulf Coast for Relief Work and Visiting New Orleans!
March 30th - April 7th, 2012
Please help support 18 youth from FSC's Fountain Club who will be traveling to Dulac and New Orleans, Louisiana, over spring break. Why should you consider helping us financially? Here is what we will accomplish:
- Traveling to New Orleans via Amtrak. Most of the the youth have never ridden a train. We will experience this means of travel that is rarely considered or used by today's youth. We will also observe the vastness of the United States during our 22-hour trip from Kalamazoo to New Orleans and back.
- Volunteering at the Dulac Community Center. Four years ago, Fountain Club youth and adults worked with the people of Dulac, a small community 2.5 hours southwest of New Orleans, cleaning up and rebuilding homes that were destroyed by Hurrican Katrina. More work is needed and we will spend three days working in that community.
- Visiting and touring New Orlean: New Orleans is a fascinating city. We will take a tour observing the reconstruction that has taken place since Katrina and the vast amount of devastation that still exists. Our time in the city will also include visiting museums that explore Voodoo religion and the history of the Mardi Gras Indians, eating Cajun food, and enjoying some of the music of New Orleans.
- Here is what your sponsorship money will provide:
- $20.00 will cover the entrance fees to the two museums and the bus fare to get to them.
- $30.00 will cover the cost of room and board for one Fountain Clubber, for one day, at the Dulac Community Center, (bed, beddihg, shower, breakfast, and dinner).
$50.00-$100.00 will help fund one of our scholarship families, providing the money each Fountain Clubber is expected to contribute for the trip, ($470.00/family).
